Energy Audits for New England Properties

An energy audit gives you valuable insights into your home’s performance and guides contractors and technicians on the most impactful steps to enhance your home’s health and comfort. After the project, we provide a free project test-out to demonstrate the improvements made.

What is the Home Energy Audit Process?

Our team comprehensively assesses your home before beginning any work to ensure top-notch service. In the initial consultation, we’ll inquire about your home as you know it best. Next, we perform a detailed visual inspection to identify typical issues based on your home’s age and style. Lastly, we utilize infrared analysis to pinpoint air leaks or insulation gaps and document these problems with photos.

We’ll craft a detailed project outline with recommendations. This will help you choose a path that aligns with your goals and budget.

Our upgrade proposal can transform your home into a healthier, more comfortable space while lowering energy costs, boosting property value, and enhancing durability. By implementing comprehensive upgrades, you could reduce heating and cooling expenses by 25-50%! Once you decide on your desired improvements, we conduct energy audit tests to validate our design and safety measures.

What We’re Looking For

Blower Door Testing

This test measures the airtightness of your home, a key part of a home energy audit. It tells you how fast air moves through your house.

  • Fast = wasted energy.
  • Slow = potential indoor air quality issues.

We use a blower door with a big fan to measure air flow, find leaks, and calculate air exchange rates. Leaks are often due to warm air escaping through the roof and cold air coming in from the basement, known as the stack effect.

Health & Safety Testing

Ensuring your home’s safety is our top priority. We check for carbon monoxide from combustion appliances like furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and space heaters. We also inspect chimneys, flues, and exhaust fans. Additionally, we identify other health risks such as asbestos, high moisture levels promoting mold, and outdated electrical wiring.

Other Considerations

Your home functions as a system where every factor influences your comfort and energy expenses. We analyze your fuel consumption, hot water usage, and other relevant data.

Final Project Test-Out

After finishing the work, we will conduct a second blower door test to measure the improvement in air sealing and a combustion appliances test to ensure safe operation. Lastly, we perform a Quality Assurance inspection to ensure that the work meets expectations for your family’s health and comfort.
